Posterior mandibular defect has always been a challenge for implant surgeons. Different techniques are available such as onlay graft (block or GBR); inlay bone graft; distraction osteogenesis to correct vertical bone loss. Though use of these techniques depends on many factors such as indication, training of the operator and some emotional or financial reasons.
This presentation will describe the resorption pattern of a bone graft and try to answer below mentioned questions :
- What techniques are available and are they predictable?
- How and why have these techniques evolved ?
- How has technology (short implant, 3D graft) changed the surgeon’s choices ?
